Gold Coast
The Gold Coast stretches from Tweed Heads to Paradise Point. Palm Beach is one of
the more popular areas, where the views and resorts are absolutely fabulous. The
main features include excellent surf and beaches, Currumbin Bird Sanctuary, centres and
holiday resorts.

Great Keppel Island
1400 hectares of subtropical island, consisting of natural bushlands and 17 spectacular
white sandy beaches. Located 48Km north-east of Rockhampton, its Resorts provide
entertainment and recreational activities, directed mainly at young holiday makers.
Gympie
Set in lush & fertile terrain, Gympie was the scene of one of Australia's largest
Gold-Rushes (1867). Still, even today the town retains much of its early
architecture. Attractions include the "Mother Mountain National Park", noted for
its cascades & rock pools.
Hamilton Island
Developed by millionaire Keith Williams, Hamilton Island is a World-Standard Resort Island
off the coast of Shute Harbour, situated in the centre of the Whitsunday Group islands.
It has a jet airstrip and an appearance, similar to that of an old fishing village.
At night the island's liveliness has given it the reputation of being Australia's
Barbary Coast. The island has a charter boat operation, diving facilities, a dolphin
pool and excellent accommodation. One of the main attractions is the National Deer
Park, a place still used to farm deers.
Hayman Island
29Km from Shute Harbour, Hayman Island is a northern Whitsunday Group Island. Its
resorts provide World-class accommodation and excellent facilities for exploring the
surrounding waterways. Nearby is Longford Reef, renowned for its spectacular coral
gardens.
Helidon Spa
22Km east of Toowoomba, this spa provides facilities for water-skiing and swimming.
The spa also has a heated hydro therapy pool.
Hinchinbrook Island
The world's largest island national park is located 22Km off the coast from Cardwell.
It is a huge, mountainous island, showing off a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Other water activities this island offers are crabbing and scuba diving. It
is a yachtsman's paradise, allowing one to cruise though the Hinchinbrook Channel and out
to explore the Great Barrier Reef.
Innisfail
Rich in sugar plantations, as are the other islands surrounding it. It is the centre
for the Atherton Tablelands. It is once again a stepping-off point for the Great
Barrier Reef. Each August the town is host to a sugar festival and in December an
annual opera festival. Attractions of Innisfail and the surroundings include the
Canecutter Monument, which stresses the importance of the town as a sugar cultivation
centre, a Chinese joss house, a replica Spanish Castle at Paronella Park and excellent
swimming locations at Etty Beach, Mena Creek Falls & Flying Fish point. To the
west is the Nerada tea plantation, which is Australia's first commercial tea garden and
factory.
Kuranda Scenic Rail Tour
West of Cairns, Kuranda is noted for its beautiful railway station and homestead built in
1911. The homestead is known for its Sunday morning market, which is set on the edge
of a rainforest, a honey house and a simulated mine Museum. It is also a terminal
for a Scenic Rail Tour, allowing visitors access to nearby Barren Falls.
Lake Moondarra
Located in Western Queensland, this lake is a great place for swimming, sailing and
water-skiing. The region is also renowned for its spectacular Aboriginal rock
painting sites, their isolation exemplifying the well known theme of the 'timeless land'.

Laura
Located west of Cooktown and at the south of Lakefield National Park. It lies in the
heart of Quinkin country where hundreds of Aboriginal paintings have been discovered.
The cave paintings represent one of the largest collections of prehistoric art in
the world, dating back to 13 200 B.C.
Mackay
Recognised as the sugar capital of Australia. It has the world's largest sugar
terminal, with nearby Hay Point the World's largest coal-handling complex. This
attractive and relaxing region is enhanced by palms and colourful parks. It is also
a major departure for the Great Barrier Reef and offshore island resorts.
Magnetic Island
Situated a short distance from Townsville. This island is rather easy to access from
inland, it has a ferry service between it and Townsville, as well as a car ferry to
Arcadia. Attractions of Magnetic Island include a national park with a bird
sanctuary, an aquarium at Nelly Bay, a fernery and orchid display at Arcadia Bay and 22Km
of bushwalks and holiday resorts. One of the more spectacular attractions is the gun
emplacements overlooking the approaches to Townsville. These were installed early
this century in anticipation of Russian Invasion. The fort ruins make wonderful
display on this island, as do the wonderful views to the surrounding islands across the
blue ocean.
Mount Isa
It is a splendid mining town in far west Queensland. It's main features include the
Rotary Museum, with a unique display of mining techniques, also the City Lookout, which is
noted for its famous global sign.
Noosa Heads Noosa is a booming resort centre, offering the state's best surf and beaches. It is also noted for its other aquatic facilities. However, nearby is Noosaville, its main attraction a model tall ships display. Other attractions include steep, coloured-sand cliffs at Teewah and the Cooloola National Park with its abundance of flora & fauna species. Nice city, residential and tourism type district. |
Port Douglas
Port Douglas is an old gold port. It is noted for its fine restaurants and homes.
One of the notable attractions of the town is Shipwreck Museum, established by Ben
Cropp. South is Hartleys Creek Zoo and to the North Spurgeon Falls, both popular
attractions.
