Wangaratta - Yackandandah
Wangaratta
The main production here is wool and wheat, it is also the western centre of the Victorian
snow fields. Some main attractions include Bontharambo Homestead which captures the
colonial architecture, the man-size chess pieces in the King George Gardens and Meriwa
Park, noted for its sunken garden and picnic facilities.
Warrnambool
Once a base for whalers and sealers. Today it is mostly a resort and little commercial
centre. Some of Oz's most majestic coastal scenery is found nearby. Other attractions
include a maritime village, a reptile park and a reserve of extinct volcanoes.

Westernport Bay
Located SE Victoria, it is a superb natural deepwater harbour and the home of many animal
and bird species.
William Ricketts Sanctuary
Located on Mt Dandenong, it consists of a piece of steep forest land purchased 1935 by
William Rickett, a musician with the desire to express his feelings artistically with
Aboriginal culture as well as nature. The sanctuary is administered by the Forests
Commission.
Winchelsea
Located on Bellarine Peninsula, it sits on the Barwon River. Some attractions include a
stone bridge constructed in 1867, a mus. in the Barwon Hotel, which records the local
history and Barwon Park which is a National Trust property where a 42-room bluestone
mansion built in 1869 can be found.
Wodonga
Located on Victorian side of the NSW border, this town is being
developed into a city as part of a decentralisation project. It sits on shores of the Hume
Weir, a pop water sports area. It is also central to gold-fossicking areas of
Yackandandah, Chiltern an Beechworth and to wineries of Rutherglen. Other attractions
include an aircraft mus. a folk mus. and a fauna sanctuary.
Yackandandah
This former gold town, today is noted for its historic buildings, including the former
Bank of Vic which is now a museum. A nearby attraction, at Allan's Flat is a strawberry
winery.
