Anglesea
Anglesea is well known for its flora areas. One of its
attractions is the Alan Noble Sanctuary, a tiny waterbird reserve which contains a
miniature lake and picnic facilities.
Avenel
A rural town in Victoria, Avenel gained notoriety during the Ned Kelly era. It was
here, at a nearby stone bridge, that he saved a farmer of drowning during a flood.
The bridge is classified by National Trust.
Bairnsdale
This picturesque Victorian town, located on the Princes Highway in the Lakes Entrance
area, its gardens, a historical museum and St Mary's Church and its ceiling murals.
Nearby is Glenaladale National Park with its forests of beauty and its contents of
Aboriginal ceremonial ground and caverns containing stalagmites and stalactites in the
Mitchell River Gorge.
Ballarat
One of 4 of Victoria's major goldmining centres, Ballarat is the most renowned because of
the events of the Eureka Stockade. Visitors can pan for gold at a goldmining
community. Other attractions include a museum antique and craft shops and many galleries.

Ballarine Peninsula
This peninsula offers many surfing beaches overlooking Bass Strait and safe, calm beaches
over looking Port Phillip Bay. A nearby attraction of Point Lonsdale is Buckleys
Cave.
Benalla
Located 43Km of Euroa, it is Ned Kelly country. Air currents from the nearby
mountains make the area particularly suitable for gliding. Other attractions include
beautiful rose gardens between October and April and art galleries & the historic
railway station.
Bendigo
Another one of Victoria's most noted goldmining towns, it contains many relics of its
former days, including a fully restored mine, a Chinese joss house and a goldmining
museum. Other features are Vintage trams, an art gallery, a wax works, displays of
pottery and spinning and a mohair farm.
Buchan
Located in centre of a dairying and limestone cave area, Buchan has proved pop with
tourists and speleologists. The major attractions of the area are the Buchan Caves,
which contain formations of stalagmites and stalactites of startling beauty. Other
attractions include Verity's Dairy, an arts and craft museum, a mineral collection at
Stonehenge and the nearby Murrindal Caves, which are famous for the whiteness and delicacy
of their limestone formations.
Cape Otway
The most southern part of the Otway Coast is Cape Otway, known for the many sailing ships
that were wrecked in the vicinity. A lighthouse was est. by convicts in 1884, today
it is complemented by a radio beacon, a vital navigational aid for passing ships.
Attractions in the area are horseback trail rides west of the cape at Bimbi park and
surfing beach at nearby Johanna.
Castlemaine
Castlemaine, home of the beer, is a town of immense natural beauty, located 42Km south of
Bendigo, this town has many preserved buildings dating back to the goldmining era.
Another attraction is a 25 hectare reserve where koalas are allowed to roam around free.
Clunes
Surrounded by 22 extinct volcanoes, it's the site of Victoria's first gold findings.
Laid bare with open cut coal mines is Bacchus, located nearby. Also, in 1973
the fossil remains of a diprotodon, (a predecessor of wombats) was discovered, making the
region considerably interesting to geologists and archeologists. There are other
attractions ranging from rugged gorges, a horse stud and a lion park.
Echuca
This is one of Australia's earliest inland ports, a notable feature is the massive red gum
wharf built to accommodate the extreme changes in the river level. Other features
include many historic buildings, the Historical Society Museum, the Alambie Auto
& Folk Museum and World in Wax Museum.
Falls Creek
An all-season resort, very popular and can be found on the Bogong high plains of the
Australian Alps. During the winter months the surrounding terrain provides some of
the best serviced ski runs in Australia.
Geelong
Victoria's 2nd city, it's a thriving metropolis with the advantages of a bayside setting
and a rural atmostphere. More than 100 of its buildings are classified by National
Trust and the city provides many parks of geological and scenic interest. The Great
Ocean Road, heading south, is rated as one of the most magnificent coastal roads in the
world.
