Blue-billed Platypus' are another pouched creature, alike the wombat and the kangaroo.  They are monotremes (the lowest order of mammals) as are echidnas. (Monotremes are mammals that lay eggs and are only found here and in NZ).  Platypus' are a creak animal, but the numbers are gradually decreasing.  Unfortunately, sightings are rare but taking a trip to "Southbank's Gondwana Land" would certainly pay off for anyone who has neither seen one

The Lyrebird is featured on the back of the 10c piece.  It's a beautiful bird - alike the peacock and can be found in national parks, also zoos.  If you go to 'Mt Glorious' in Queensland you are guaranteed to see wild scrub turkeys and possibly Lyrebirds.  It's a great place to go if you want to see nature, or if you would like to take a look at some of our finest rainforests. The views are great and the climate is beautiful, it's always rainy and sometimes snowy (however this is rare).

Emus of the bizarre bird family.  They're one of the only bird that can't fly alike the ostrich.  These birds are everywhere, except our backyards of course but they are at all parks and reserves.  They are a massive bird with massive legs and a habit for stealing, such as sandwiches off kids at parks.  They are an absolutely beautiful animal if ever you get a close look (its the eyes).

The Purple-crowned Lorikeet is perhaps one of the most attractive wild birds in Qld.  These birds are extremely domesticated, especially down Queensland's Gold coast.  They are seed eaters but enjoy honey with bread.  A great place to get close to them besides Gold Coast residency would be Currumbin Sanctuary, once again in Queensland.  In their frenzy they will come close enough for you to touch and feed.   Most sightings occur in backyards and parks.  If you're extra lucky you can see them drop to the ground under the influence of Umbrella-Tree juice.   There are many different types and names (Sunshine lorikeets, Rainbow Lorikeets, Golden Lorikeets and so on).
